Introduction.

If you collect or study Mexican paper money, you may have noticed an interesting pattern among some of the more common Yucatecan notes, the early 20-peso bills of the Comision Reguladora del Mercado de Henequen (PI-YUC-12, M5159, and P-S1124 ).  Most notes are more common in the lower grades and less common in the higher grades.  The reverse is true of many of these 20-peso bills.  The available notes are dominated by the C and D Series, the vast majority of which are uncirculated and lack revalidation seals (Figures 1 and 2).  A lot of them are also consecutive.  Have you ever wondered why?

Es un artículo publicado en la revista de la Sociedad Numismática de México en el año 2010 y se refiere a un episodio de extorsión o fraude, ocurrido en los comienzos de 1915, por parte del gobernador, "accidental" como el mismo se autodefine, Coronel Abel Ortiz Argumedo en contra de la International Harvester Company (que compraba todo el henequén producido en Yucatán en esas épocas) y que involucra un lote grande de estos billetes utilizados por la Comisión Reguladora del Mercado de Henequén en esos tiempos.
